Celanese and Li Auto Unveil Hostaform® POM XAP3: Low-Emission Innovation for Greener Mobility

24 June 2025

Celanese, Li Auto

Celanese Corporation, which specializes in chemicals, is making a new low-emission polymer with Li Auto, the Chinese NEV pioneer. This was announced in May, while the commercial use of this material in interior cabin parts of the upcoming models from Li Auto is in progress. Developed on the platform of Celanese's third generation of low-emission materials, Hostaform® POM XAP3 gives an utmost reduction in formaldehyde emission of 90% compared to the existing materials, which stands as the new benchmark in in-cabin air quality. The material's conception is blessed with ever-increasing consumer and regulatory demand for healthier, safer vehicle interiors.

“This collaboration not only enhances the travel experience but also reflects our leadership in innovative, sustainable materials,” said Todd Elliott, SVP of Engineered Materials at Celanese. “It also reinforces our position in China’s rapidly evolving NEV sector.”
Li Auto sees this as a key differentiator in smart mobility.

“A healthier cabin is now a core expectation,” noted Jichao Duan, Head of Materials at Li Auto. “Working with Celanese helps us deliver a superior driving experience.”

Revenue of the Chemical Industry in China From 2005 to 2021 (Unit: U.S. Dollars)

Timing is an ever-so-critical factor when it comes to innovating. Data in recent times shows how the revenues of the chemical industry in China witnessed an all-time high: USD 4,732.1 billion in the year 2021, from its continuous growth, basically because of:

  • Electric vehicles
  • Advanced polymers
  • Green manufacturing

Between 2005 and 2021, industry revenues more than doubled, situating China as a global materials star and a leading market for specialty innovation. Moving toward cleaner, safer, and high-performance solutions, materials such as Hostaform® POM XAP3 create a niche in competition for OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.

Along with comfort enhancement and better air quality, this new material is ideally conceived toward carbon neutrality and wider trends of sustainability in the industry. More and more OEMs wanting to bring down VOCs and emissions inside vehicles-to-VOCs are fucking emissions for vehicles-inside inside the vehicles, collaborative efforts like this are a turning point on how to renovate materials for mobility.

Examples are set by the collaboration of Celanese and Li Auto, where innovation with low emissions meets comfort for end users and market dynamics with paramount significance.
