Layn Natural Ingredients announces the product launch of SteviUp M2, a new plant-based sweetener for food and beverage applications. Introduced on July 8, SteviUp M2 (Reb M2) is said to have a sugar-like taste with improved solubility and less lingering sweetness compared to typical stevia extracts. The sweetener has now been awarded FDA GRAS status.
SteviUp M2 is manufactured with an enzyme-based bioconversion process from purified steviol glycosides obtained from Stevia rebaudiana. It is thus non-GMO, sustainable, and clean-label friendly. “For over two decades, we’ve invested in R&D to improve stevia quality, taste, and processing efficiency,” stated Frank Xie, President & CEO of Guilin Layn Natural Ingredients.
Layn will be demonstrating the ingredient's functionality and scientific background at booth #S2400 during IFT FIRST 2025, set to take place from July 13–16 in Chicago.
Recent market data showcase the relevance of SteviUp M2 in the present product landscape. In terms of comparison between products with sugar and sugar-free products in the market, the sugar-free category is gaining traction, particularly in drinks (34%), desserts (33%), and snacks/sweets (15%). This shift corresponds with a growing consumer preference for low-sugar fillers within the categories of indulgence and refreshment.
Converse to this trend, traditional sugar-containing products remain concentrated in snacks/sweets (39%), drinks (15%), and cereal flakes (13%), hinting at vast potential for clean-label, low-sugar reformulations. It is a direct solution, SteviUp M2-based formulation can address.
Layn also looks at botanical extracts in nutraceuticals, personal care, and animal health. The company has recently completed the expansion of its biotech facility and launched Galacan, the beta-glucan ingredient.
