Alcoholic Beverage, Bakery & Confectionery, and Grain Products to Propel the U.S. Food and Beverage Production in 2025

According to a report published in January 2025, the Food and Beverage Production sector in the US is a significant contributor to the economy, accounting for nearly 3.5 million jobs and over $534.3 billion of GDP in 2023. This sector includes Food and Beverage Processing, Fishing, and Agriculture subsectors, with notable job growth in food manufacturing, mainly beverage production.

  • Americans continue to spend more on spirits like tequila, whisky, and vodka as they perfect their own cocktail mixing techniques. According to data from Bump Williams Consulting, a Shelton, Connecticut Firm, which services the alcoholic beverages industry and uses NielsenIQ data, spending on spirits at retail rose 1.2% in 2022, and consumer spending on beer rose 2.2% in 2022.
  • In March 2025, according to the 2025 State of Treating report published last week by the National Confectioners Association (NCA), Confectionery sales topped $54 billion in 2024.
    John Downs, president and CEO, NCA, said, “Americans are still turning to chocolate and candy as a special way to elevate their celebrations, holidays, and even ordinary days. The connection between our industry’s products and emotional well-being is undeniable, and we are meeting consumers where they want to be met with options for the moment, no matter the occasion.” 
  • According to a report published in January 2025, the Worldwide production of grain in 2024/25 by type (in million metric tons) includes rye, oats, sorghum, barley, rice (milled), wheat, and corn.
