According to the reports of KPMG, there is an increase observed in hidden logistics costs due to losses caused by global supply chain issues. Process consultants and supply chain consultants are planning to streamline the supply chain management process with the support of IT. They are bringing in more systems, and they are more inclined towards reducing the costs and ultimately losses.
Transport and logistics are the lifeline of economic efficiency and global trade. They ensure that the goods and services from various countries, from manufacturers to the end-users, arrive on time and in a cost-effective manner. The hidden logistics costs and the composition are very different in terms of operational efficiency, infrastructure, and market dynamics. The chart given above is titled ‘relative composition of transport and logistics cost‘, which gives us a view of how the costs are divided into three main economies: India, China, and the United States.
The imbalance in the cost distribution indicates that there are various problems in the infrastructure of Indian logistics. These problems and inefficiencies lead to higher losses, both materially and financially. Also, because of the regulatory bottlenecks and the infrastructure, the global standards are higher than the speed of transport movement in India. To bring a solution to these problems, India should invest in infrastructure development and promote public-private partnerships.
In conclusion, this graph shows a visual representation of the landscape of economic and logistical maturity of various countries. China and the US are very close to achieving effective cost systems of logistics, and India has to address the inefficiencies, and the logistics sector should be modernised to stay in competition in the global marketplace. If they reduce the other category and bring the global benchmarks in line, India can easily lower the hidden logistics costs overall by improving the economic output and supply chain resilience.
