Precision fermentation is a biotechnological process that modifies microorganisms genetically to have them produce specific compounds for use as food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals. The market is growing in line with the demand for sustainable alternatives to conventional production systems. Through this technology, one can manufacture plant-based and alternative proteins with either comparable or enhanced nutritional value vis-à-vis their animal origin, but with very little of the resource utilization and environmental degradation associated with traditional agriculture.
The businesses using this technology are making clean-label products, considering consumer demand for greener ways of consumption and ethical consumption.
