Nestle Alt-Protein Revenue Growth (2021-2025)

In January 2025, Nestle launched a massive plant-based product line, with over 25 new stock-keeping units, including alternate dairy yogurts and meat-substitute patties, which will be available in over 30 countries. This largest-ever release is a huge strategic bet to capitalize on a growing consumer shift toward plant-based protein. Nestle is set to reach US$1.4 billion in alt-protein sales by 2026, up from US$820 million in 2023, which will account for an approximately 70% increase in two years. The KPMG Food Outlook report, released in 2025, notes that 39% of global consumers are actively reducing meat intake, with 17% adopting flexitarian or semi-vegetarian diets. Nestle already has a diverse catalogue including shelf-stable vegan milks fortified with B12 and calcium, along with a number of new high-protein dairy alternatives tailored for markets like India and Brazil.

Behind the scenes, the FMCG giant is undertaking a huge amount of research and development investment to ensure product quality. Nestlé’s research and development spend on plant-based innovation rose 22% in 2024, indicating growing confidence in precision fermentation and texture-mimic technologies. Partnerships with biotech startups are now in place to enhance taste and production efficiency, a critical differentiation in a crowded alt-protein market.
